Hello All,

My job will be transferring me to a position in Coppell Texas. I am looking to purchase or build a home but Coppell seems a bit too expensive for me.

Can someone give some insight on where I can begin a home search. My budget is up to $250K. I am looking for newer homes (less than 5 years old) atleast 2200sf.

It must be a family friendly diverse community. I have a 9 year old daughter so I would love to be in an area with great schools.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's going to be hard to find a whole lot that is less than 5 years old in your price range.

If I were you, I'd focus on existing homes in Valley Ranch (west of MacArthur is Coppell Schools), Coppell itself, Flower Mound, and Grapevine.

Probably the best 2 cities by Coppell is Lewisville (under $250k) and Flower Mound (over $200k). If you don't mind driving a little... Corinth, Bedford, Euless or Grapevine is very nice in your price range

If you are willing to live with something older/smaller in your price range in Coppell, it is a very nice city in itself and will give you an enviable (lack of) commute. I would kill to have a job in Coppell!

As others have said, you are going to have to go MUCH further out to find a new home of that size in that price range. Honestly, for the quality of life, and time with your family, that you will be sacrificing due to the lengthy commute this will require, it's really not worth it.

Take Corinth OFF your list. You do NOT want to have to drive across the Lake Lewisville I35E bridge every day. It is a notorious traffic bottleneck, and if there is a wreck on the bridge, you have few viable alternatives.

Actually FM 2499 (six lanes) was extended a few years ago around the back part of the lake into Corinth. No longer must one go down I-35 and cross the bridge if you're headed toward DFW airport. It would be a place to get a little newer home at a good price and still be within 20-25 minutes of Coppell

That would mean taking 2499 south in the mornings through Flower Mound, which is a VERY heavily traveled road. You'd do better to go down 35E and just take your chances...

No way. It takes me ~20 minutes to get from Coppell to my parent's house in Flower Mound (Wellington) without traffic. The OP would be adding another 20-25 on top of that. And ChristieP is right, hit it at the wrong time in rush hour and it is ugly.

Also, Lake Dallas schools have nothing on Coppell, Flower Mound, or Grapevine. I'd put all three of those in the same category, maybe with Grapevine coming in last, but not too far behind. Lake Dallas cant even touch those.

Believe me, I'm all for suburban living to get a newer house/better schools/better quality of life for a family, but in this case, the OP would really be sacrificing A LOT for a newer home.
