Can someone help what is needed for Tax Abatement. Visited dcurd.org site, but not seeing any form for it.

We were told by loan officer that we should be able to file this by our-self and it has to be done by 3/31. Called dcurd office, but they are closed today.

Also, what happens if we don't file by 3/31?

Any help is appreciated.

Probably referring to homestead exemption or potentially senior exemption. Both of these exemptions lower your property taxes. The senior exemption applies if you are 65 or older. The homestead exemption applies if you were living in the property as of 1.1.13 as your primary residence. Look for a form under these two titles rather than a tax abatement form, I did this myself as I recall. The senior exemption happened automatically the year I turned 65.

Thanks Johnhw2

We were told about Homestead too, which as you said, has to be done on Jan 1. Tax Abatement is another one that needs to be filled by end of March. Not sure if its a Las Colinas thing.

I just visited http://www.dallascad.org/Calendar.aspx-- and see April 30 is deadline for following-
Deadline to file Total Exemptions, Agricultural, Freeport, Pollution Control, Tax Abatement, Historic Site, Goods-in-Transit, and Mixed Use Motor Vehicle Exemption applications, unless specifically extended by Chief Appraiser.

Please chime in if anyone has more details.

Is the property a commercial property? I am familiar with some taxing authorities giving an abatement to a new commercial use or property.

I searched and found Las Colinas area has a unique tax abatement for DCurb taxes, unique to Las Colinas and TIF taxes there as well. I would do an online search to see if you can find the unique abatement form for LC if you dont get a timely post from here about it from a LC resident or someone familiar with their unique taxes.
Here is a web site you may have already checked but it was mentioned for the Dcurd tax abatement form.

(You can find more about the Tax Abatement program at the Dallas County URD website: dcurd.com/tax.htm)

Yes, the DCURD is a Las Colinas taxing district. From my understanding, they created this for the economic development in the area. Residential owners can file an Abatement to DCAD each year in order to reduce this tax. This is different from the Homestead exemption that only needs to be filed once.

The link to the abatement for can be found on the DCAD website under forms:
