I need to spend time there, maybe I had a not a positive impression, as I could.
On the other hand your points of smaller lots, higher taxes and home price, are also a factor.

This is so true. And it doesn't just apply to others on the road but also to others on the conference call that deserve focused, meaningful participation without the annoyances of bad reception and road noise.

FM is also not geographically close to downtown Dallas, and there is no option for public transit or rail.

Have you considered Coppell? It has much better access to freeways, and also has excellent schools.
Far southeast Flower Mound is basically no different transportation-wise from northwest Coppell. That's where we live. To downtown Dallas, 121 to I-35E (no 2499 at all) is maybe 10 mins and there's never any traffic until you hit 35E. It's also not a bad drive to some of the northern DART Green Line stations (we usually go to Trinity Mills).

That said, Coppell is a little closer to all of that (particularly the eastern side) and so I'd definitely look there as well.
