I have a girl entering kindergarten this September. We don't speak English at home. she is very shy and hardly speak to any other adult. Although she has been in daycare for three years, she only speaks to her friends, We are quite worried that her shyness will limit her development. I am thinking about hiring a high school student to help her with this in after school time. But I don't have any detailed information about how can I find good teacher for her.

I heard that high school have program for future teachers in high school to pick elementary kids and tutor them. Appreciate any input from you~~

The one parent who speaks the best English should speak it to her exclusively to help her development of the language. You can call the nearest high school to you and ask for the counselor. Tell them what you want and ask for help.

Plano ISD has good early childhood programs with ESL and speech therapy programs. One of my neighbors sold her house in Allen and moved here so her daughter can benefit. Also, there are day cares with senior high schools for training purposes.

1. A friend of mine is a foreign language expert and a teacher. I'll ask her if she has any ideas.

2. If I were you I'd call every private school close by. Private school kids have, with few exceptions, a minimum number of community service hours that must be completed. My daughter goes to Ursuline in Dallas she tutors younger kids in algebra and math plus in a separate program she teachers very young kids to read.
