I actually grew up dirt poor in a trailer park myself. I'm sure everyone was very nice but they gave us the "outsider" look and didn't look really pleased we were driving through their neighborhood. It was super uncomfortable and we had the feeling we were about to get confronted (or robbed). We felt really sorry for the fact these people had to live in those conditions. But when I grew up, I didn't know we were dirt poor so I didn't think anything of it at all. I'm greatful for a warm roof over my head, the military and my college degree which got me out of the "park".

The lake is really nice in Tawakoni.

Yeah i deff miss Texas so much n really want to move back, people tell me im makin a huge mistake cause im only 20 goin on 21 in may but i kno i can do it. all i need is a trailer..not even double wide.but sadly all i can do is rent. the trailer park i grew up in was really interestin in more ways than one. The people are hillbilly as hell (which must of my family is) and half the trailer park is related. and yet we were still carryin guns n pocket knifes for protection haha.
and i was also wonderin about jobs down there in point, or even right on the lake near point.

My family has owned a large farm near the lake for over 100 years, before there was a lake. We were told as children that alligators were put in the lake but I have never seen one or any indications of one. My family has spent many hours swimming and searching for arrowheads on the banks and tributaries; arrowheads are abundant but no signs of gators.

We are interested in buying a place to retire to and have been looking around the Tawakoni area. I recently was told (by an X-Real Estate Broker) that the area is riddled with meth labs. Prostitution and heavy crimes. Is this pretty accurate or not so much?

Thanks

Even though the posts in this thread are old, they're all still relevant. In most regards, the area's not changed at all in the last 10-15 years.
It's long had a reputation for being a hot area for meth. A couple of years ago, a large drug trafficking ring in the area was busted - there were about 30 arrests. And since then I personally know of 3 different events in which meth was involved and a total of 8 people were involved.
No idea about other crimes.

Sadly, though, her description isn't that far off. It's not a nice place.
The grocery store in Quinlan still allowed people to smoke cigarettes inside within the last 15 years. We stopped in there once and I was just shocked by that.
