I'm looking for some suggestions and places to avoid for someone relocating to Irving. My boyfriend landed a job around Las Colinas Blvd in Irving. He's relocating all the way from northeast TN so a lot of this apartment hunting process is resting on my shoulders and I don't know much about this. His budget is small between $700-800max and I'm trying to keep him south of Las Colinas Blvd. I'm open to suggestions (or places to avoid) in North Arlington, North Grand Prairie, etc. I'm in Duncanville so we're trying to keep him a bit in between for gas costs.

I live in Irving, and most of your nicer class-B apartments which could still fit that rate will be around Beltline and Walnut Hill. There's also one on Finley that's tucked just west of Story Rd, you might be able to get into something for those rates. I've had friends live there and I can vouch that it's clean and well-maintained.

Avoid the classB- joint tucked between Walnut Hill and Northgate just east of Beltline and facing Northgate at all costs. It's a healthy neighborhood in terms of working-class community, but the landlords are infamous for not taking on their mold issues. I don't know anything about the version facing Walnut Hill, but they're next to a much-used soccer park and very close to Victoria Park, which is large and more than capable of making up for not having a yard if you've got a kid in the picture. The closer you get towards the high-end housing over by Las Colinas proper, the closer the apartments get to either "far out of your price range," or else "roach motel."

Can't help for Arlington/Grand Prairie, unfortunately.
