I'm also from Kentucky (Louisville) and I lived in McKinney for 7 years, west Plano for 1 year, and Addison for 3 years so I can tell you that west Plano is nice but if you can, head to west McKinney. Five miles west of 75. Much nicer than west Plano which is old and starting to attract some homeless.

Huh?!?!?!?!?!

Are you sure you were in west Plano and not west Dallas?

Castle Hills would be worth a look, too. Clubhouses/pools, lots of stuff for kids, closer to synagogues than Coppell/Flower Mound but not as far from work as Plano. The one downside is that the schools at the elementary level and above aren't as strong as Plano/Flower Mound/Coppell, but they are still quite good.
