Hello everyone,

I'm about to move from Memphis, TN to the DFW area (specifically Addison) and I'm trying to figure out how the utility situation works here. I wound up filling out a form to get "New Leaf Energy" to begin the ordering process and it is now being processed for my electricity to be turned on when I move. Having grown up in Memphis, we only have one power company (MLGW) that provide light, gas and water, and so you just pay them per month based on how much of each you use. In the DFW area, are there different companies that provide each utility? If so, what are some companies I should look at in order to get them to turn on my water and gas on the same day as the electricity? Dumb questions, I know, but I'm new to this whole thing. Thanks in advance!

-Jeff F.

Welcome to Dallas. If you go to powertochoose.org and pop in your zip code you can check electric on rates.I recommend that you consider a contract for a year.

I have not heard of Green Leaf you should check them out using google. Most electric rates are between 6 cents and 10 cents a kilowatt but some companies are offering free Sundays certainly a help.

If your home is all electric your winter bills may be higher than summer. I live in 2400sf home and my electric bill run about 2500 a year and my water sewer and trash are about 80 a month. I used to consider phone and electric a utility my internet phone and tv are 190 a month. Dallas is no longer regulated and cost for insurance and utilities are high.
