Since UTD is like an elite school already I dont understand why theres not a football team or something that brings more hot girls to the school, plus the football team will bring in more money.. The richardson area close to UTD is nice and its booming. Im actually gnna attend UTD because im sure they are gnna be tier 1 soon (this will look superb on my transcripts). They have remodeled the school very very nice and it is only getting better. In the future it will attract lots of smart students and families, making it a good place to own rental properties. The dallas area will have alot of things to offer prospective students including a competitive and recognized education in all areas (atleast I think..); it will have great opportunities for engineering majors (because of the companies like TI), great opportunities for accounting and auditing majors (because of the big four companies in Dallas), great opportunities for health majors (because of UT Southwestern)... The dallas area is where its at. UTD is the place to be. But does anyone else think we need more beautiful girls to go with the beautiful campus?? And shouldnt UTD have more dorms, like harvard?

Maybe you've picked the wrong school.

It's kinda hard to translate engineering, sciences, accounting, etc. into a full scale athletic program.

Quote:
Jan. 1990

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board on Jan. 26, gave final approval to add the freshman and sophomore years to undergraduate programs at The University of Texas at Dallas.
A run of the mill university wasn't really the goal of this school's founders...
Quote:
...the founders took action to serve both their enterprise and Texas by establishing the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest in 1961. It was renamed the Southwest Center for Advanced Studies (SCAS) in 1967, and, in 1969, the founders transferred the assets of SCAS to the State of Texas, and then-Governor Preston Smith signed the bill establishing UT Dallas.
Quote:
Juniors and seniors were admitted for the first time beginning in 1975, resulting in an enrollment of 3,333
Quote:
UT Dallas became part of the American Southwest Conference — an NCAA Division III conference — in fall 1998. In just over 10 years, the intercollegiate athletics program has excelled, most recently reaching the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Division III men's basketball tournament in March 2009. Other sports offered in the program include baseball, softball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis and volleyball.

UTD is going to let you attend? If they are, this proves they are not a tier 1 school. Either learn how to write or stop posting when you are high/drunk.

I know plenty of tier 1 students and graduates that partied in their college years.

why UTD has no football:

UTD is a very young university and it only has under 20K students and 32% or so of them are graduate students and as was already pointed out it was started as graduate only and then 3rd and 4th year before it expanded down....none of these things lend themselves to football success

in Texas with 12 existing D1-A programs having a program below the D1-A level is not really all that attractive in terms of bringing in students that are really interested in football especially when those students are going to be interested in more than just "having" a program they will want one that wins and that would be difficult for UTD to accomplish

the mixture of degree programs at UTD also does not lend itself to football success as well.....so the end result is the intelligent decision by the powers at be to not have a football program that would perform poorly just to say they have one

rental properties:

look at google maps or google earth....it is going to be extremely difficult for anyone to own rental properties that will turn a profit around UTD unless they are a major apartment developer and even then it is going to be hard to find the land.....I would imagine many of the surrounding neighborhoods with single family homes either specify no rental properties in the deed restrictions or they are of the price range that would not turn a profit renting to college students especially if you wanted to keep them in shape to maintain the quality equal to the rest of the neighborhood and I would imagine the HOA would make it difficult to have long term rentals for college students in most if not all of those areas if the deed restrictions did allow it

there really is no land to build new rental properties in the area as well.....so there will be many more areas that are much better to own rental properties geared towards college students than UTD.....the remaining land that shows in the area is either UTD property or it is TAMU Ag Experiment Station property and if the TAMU property is ever sold for development it will be to a large scale developer not to rental unit owners and the like

also UTD has a THECB goal of 22,000 students by 2015 so they are not shooting for a high rate of growth and the entrance requirements do not lend themselves to a high rate of growth as well and the same with the % graduate students (the highest in Texas for a public university and one of the highest in Texas for any university)

so looking to own rental properties around UTD is a poor decision especially compared to many other university areas and towns in Texas and even more so from a rate of return perspective and ease of management compared to those other areas if you did manage to get some rent-able properties near UTD

tier 1:

there is no definition of "tier 1".....US Snooze uses the term and their academic rankings are a joke and easily manipulated and have factors in them that are meaningless like acceptance % (acceptance % is a meaningless stat since it relies on factors outside the control of the university like total number of applicants and the actual qualifications of the applicants)......if one school had 1,000 students apply with a 4.5 GPA (because of honors courses) and 1400 SAT scores and they accepted 100% of those students and another school had 5,000 students apply with 1,000 of the having a 2.75 GPA and a 1000 SAT and they accepted those 1,000 students out of 5,000 applicants that school would have a 20% acceptance rate VS the other school with a 100% acceptance rate even though the school with the 100% acceptance rate was admitting students with much higher metrics......it is a totally and completely worthless metric

also US Snooze metrics can and are manipulated in other ways so the are really not that meaningful.....but having said that UTD is in the group of the top 200 that have a numerical ranking

The Carnegie Foundation does not rank universities they classify various aspects of universities and those classifications have no meaning or comparison of quality or similarity other than the specific metric classified....UTD is classified in the basic classification as RU/H which is research university high activity so they are one classification below RU/VH which is very high.....and again that is a single CLASSIFICATION of the research and PhD granting aspects of a university not a ranking (no matter what UH tries to call it or say) and UTD will probably not be in the RU/VH classification when the next round of metrics comes out in 2015 (I believe)

the CMUP 2011 report that deals with the top 200 universities and metrics that are top 200 only has UTD listed for a few areas and all but a couple of those areas are well into the 150s or lower including total research, federal research, PhDs granted, post doc positions and others......being in the top 100 or really the top 50 in most of those areas or all of them would really be a "tier 1" type of university

and the definition The State of Texas Legislature used for "tier 1" was AAU membership when they started the NRUD and TRIP programs to try and elevate the national research profiles of selected Texas universities and UTD (as with all non-AAU members in Texas) is a LONG way from being a member of the AAU if ever

so really barring the highly flawed (and yet highly published and discussed) US Snooze rankings UTD has a long way to go before they are "tier 1' be any meaningful metric or collection of metrics and it will probably be much longer than 10 years for all of that to come together

I'm glad UTD doesn't have football. So much money is wasted on programs like that that could be better used for education.
