I'm surprised that Plano is considered more bike-able than Austin.

Good on ya' Plano.

After all it is home town of the top bicycle legend, what if he thinks of us as snobs and we think of him as a fraud.

I would like to know how they calculated those scores, I didn't see any data on it. I've been a cyclist for over 25 years and have been all over Texas. I lived in El Paso and IMO it is the best city in the state for cycling. It has 61 miles of bike lanes and there was a plan to add over 20 more. Even has something no other city here has. A mountain road to ride over. Even Garland is in the top ten? That's ridiculous. I would be scared to walk there much less ride my bike.

Plano may be the most bikeable, however there isn't anywhere in TX where bike culture is bigger than in Austin. We're currently ranked as a silver-level biking city, one of the best in the country. The city is investing a lot of effort into making the city completely accessible by bike (meaning you can travel mostly anywhere you need to go by bike). Check out Austin's bicycling program: Bicycle Program | Public Works | AustinTexas.gov - The Official Website of the City of Austin

I applaud Plano's work towards making bicycling safer and investing in bike infrastructure and I hope it continues to do so! The Dallas metro area is making a lot of improvements and encouraging people to bike. The Fort Worth bike sharing program recently launched and is worth trying out next time you're downtown.

Silver rating isn't one of the best in the country. Austin is over rated probably because of all the hipsters and because Armstrong lives there. I've ridden there. It's not that great until you get out of town onto the farm roads.

Austin is sometimes rated as one of the top bicycling cities in the America,* but it's a reputation that isn't really deserved. In fact:

Austin gets a dismal Bike Score of 45 ("Somewhat Bikeable") from WalkScore.com, which ranks us a pitiful 22nd out of the 25 U.S. cities that it ranks for bikeability.
