Illinois girl relocating with man works for American Airlines, Dallas Texas
Hi there - I am in a position to relocate from a southwest suburb of Chicago, Illinois to Dallas, Texas. My boyfriend has asked me to join him he recently accepted a transfer to the airlines located in Dallas, Texas.
I am recently divorced - have grown children and am seriously considering new life, possibility of new career, go back to college there and be with him.
I am seeking advise from anyone who lives and works near the aiport. Will have to have affordable apartment housing for want to go to college while he works. Need recommendations on where to live.
Please help!!!
Thanks in advance. Angie

If you want a 4-year college and to be close to DFW Airport, then you'll need to look at the University of North Texas or the University of Texas at Arlington. There are LOTS of apartments in the mid-cities and Arlington that are an easy drive to both the airport and UTA. Denton is not as easy since most of the housing between there and the airport is rural or expensive.

Which airport? Love Field or DFW?
Uptown for Love. Las Colinas for DFW Airport.

Las Colinas to UT Arlington would not be a good drive. LOTS of traffic and no real direct route.

Angie,
You will most likely be required to establish a 12-month residency in TX before you'll be eligible to attend college here at in-state rates, so you might want to check into the admissions requirements. Here's a link to all (we have a lot more than two):
Colleges & Universities in Dallas
And, as posted before, you'll need to find out which airport he'll be working at since A/A now flies out of both DFW and Love Field.
And then, after all that, hopefully, we can help you narrow down where to live... phew, I'm tired for you already!
Good luck to you both and enjoy your new life!

if it is the DFW site you might also want to post on the Tarrant county board...
TCCC is the Tarrant county community college and it is a 4 year college now--there are campuses for UTA in Richland Hills which is closer than driving to Arlington and UT Dallas has campus in Hurst as well...
it is about a 40+ min drive from Denton into DFW area if you wanted to live north of the airport and have him commute...
many of these colleges also have on-line classes that meet face to face less frequently...
are you sure that a college degree is what you need for your future occupation--right now 2 year degrees in medical field jobs like sonographer, medical records tech, medical transcription, pharmacist asst--are pretty hot jobs--and require less financial investment...
are you also sure that if you relocate and give up what you have where you are now, that the relationship you are moving to sustain will be there a year from now--not trying to be mean--but if it does not have durability, you could be in worse situation without stable employment, having incurred school loans, and on your own if you break up...
