I'm hearing that ExxonMobil is going to announce later this year that they are officially moving their headquarters from Irving to The Woodlands once the new corporate headquarters is completed.

Nature of source? I would be surprised, they have a pretty nice place in Irving and have their annual meeting in DT Dallas. Not a big group in that building to generate benefits to pay for an expensive move.

People have been saying this for years and every time have been proven wrong.

Come with a source or this thread should be closed.

I worked for Mobil before the merger. Exxon was in Houston and an old boss used to tell me it was easy to find a job in the oil biddness in Houston. Just a lot more going on there.

It really doesn't matter if they do or don't, seeing that at least 80-90% of the employees are in Houston already. The only difference is bragging rights when it comes to F500 claims and headquarters. Not a difference when it comes to economics.

It's matters some. A good number of Exxon Irving folks are exceptionally well paid - if they leave it will hurt a bit.

That said a friend of mine works there, he is aware of no serious talk of leaving.

About damn time. It only makes sense they would move down there to be with the hundreds of other oil & energy companies.

D/FW's economy isn't as focused on oil & energy as it once was. That said, Houston's is also diversifying. Its quickly becoming a hotbed for high tech companies such as Samsung, among others.

Heard 2 months ago from a former employee (left because her husband got a new job in OKC) that they were consolidating in Houston and it was very hard to get any position in DFW with them despite the HQ right now.

If they left, I really wouldn't care.

The economy in Dallas isn't energy really about energy anyway.

Several things.

1) This rumor has been floating around for years with people claiming to have inside knowledge all to be proved wrong. Until they come out and say they are leaving, they arent leaving.

2) DFW is not an oil focused or even an oil emphisized economy. Exxon employes so few people here relative to Houston, the West Coast, and (what was) Fairfax. If they left, the biggest impact is losing a few hundred high paying jobs which are already being counterbalanced by this:

Raytheon moving California HQ to McKinney - Dallas Business Journal

and this:

Motorola to open smartphone plant in Fort Worth, bringing 2,000 tech jobs | Dallasnews.com - News for Dallas, Texas - The Dallas Morning News

So it will suck, but lets wait for things to hash themselves out for now.
