I would guess it's the 4th - or even 5th most popular major sport there, but the Stars have been in Dallas for a good while now, and so I wondered what the level of interest is for hockey throughout the metroplex. I'm considering moving my family down there, and while I'm not dumb enough to think any sport would be as big as football in Texas, I would like to still like to get as much of a hockey fix as possible. I lived in Atlanta, a city that has lost 2 NHL teams, and wouldn't want to see that happen to a team I supported again.

Just for the record, football is also the biggest sport up here, as well. Lotta people think it's baseball or hockey, but it's not even close.

The Stars are relatively popular, though tickets are easy to come by, and there are high-school-level club hockey teams and practice arenas in most of the nothern suburbs. I don't see the Stars packing up and leaving anytime soon.

There is also a decent team in Allen that is in the minors or whatever they call it in hockey. I think they are the Allen Americans.

Tops Major Sports in Dallas(Somewhat in order):
Football
Baseball
Basketball
Hockey
Soccer

Lots of folks are summarily clueless about things they don't have some passion for or things that are not overtly supported by the media.

Many thousands of North Texas kids and adults play ice hockey.

I'm fairly sure no high school team outside DFW has won a state championship since 1999.

We have youth leagues for kids from Mini Mite house through elite Midget like Dallas Stars AAA Midget and The Texas Tornado (NAHL) and three pro teams - The Fort Worth Brahmas and The Allen Americans of The CHL Allen just won their leagues championship a few weeks ago. Plus The Dallas Stars.

With The Stars ownership situation solved plus a number of local kids pushing for NHL roster spots next year I look for hockey to ease into the local general sport's fans consciousness agin.

Go Stars!

All major ice rinks have junior hockey teams practicing all the time. There are also some adult leagues.

Most HS now have Varsity and JV teams. Frisco HS won the Varsity State Championship this year.

Hockey is more popular in DFW than it is anywhere else in Texas or the South in my opnion. But its still not up there with football, basketball, and baseball.

BTW...TDS just signed Sergei Gonchar to a two year contract. CG is a sure fire NHL Hall of Fame defenseman.
