Last month, Oncor swapped out my smart meter for another smart meter. After asking the reason, I was told because "they" are having difficulty reading the meter from downtown Dallas. Just this morning, I noticed them stopping by my neighbor's house to swap his meter out.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? Is this a genuine and accurate reason to swap out the meter? My electric bills have been very reasonable and accurate, and I'd hate to see a spike in my bills only to discover there was no need in swapping the meter out after the fact.

Thoughts?

Yeah, about a month ago there was a boom - I thought was thunder. Looked outside to see the Oncor truck, They guy said there was some problem so they were changing the meter, said the boom noise was him slapping the thing to seat it in the box.

Just a couple of months earlier I caught another Oncor guy changing the original smart meter, so now I'm on my third meter.

Can't decide if I should tell them I keep it wrapped in tin foil on hot days.... /

I hear the smart meters are monitored by the NSA and also pollute our groundwater.
