I'll be passing through Dallas tomorrow (Friday) at evening rush hour and I'm wondering what to expect or if I should seek a different route. I'll be coming in I30 from the Texarkana area and will hit the I30/I635 interchange at about 5-5:30pm. I am going to San Antonio so I'll be heading down to I35E.

Is this going to be a nightmare? Should I perhaps go down through Tyler & Corsicana to get back on I35 in Waco??

Definitely avoid the area of 30 and 635 during rush hour!!

I would exit at Belt Line, and go south. Belt Line will turn into Lake June, and then reconnect with 635 further south. This will bypass most of the traffic jam at the highway intersection, and you won't have to go too far out of your way.

Should not be too bad on that leg - it will take you down to I-20 and then to 35, right?

From the bridge to 635 will be the hardest part. The 635 to I-20 should be OK. 35 may be a bit slow but then you will be OK.

This doesn't necessarily answer the OP's question but it seems like the area's population (or at least the number of cars on the road) inexplicably doubles on Fridays... Infuriating!

There may be some ongoing construction near Waco - for south bound traffic.

Thanks for the responses folks. I got lucky and my meeting was done earlier than expected so I avoided the whole rush hour deal.
