Indeed, the Telecom Corridor, West Village, downtown Dallas, Victory Park, and Las Colinas can all be considered transit oriented developments.

That design looks good!

I wish there were more TODs around the red line in Oak Cliff.

Credit DART for not mucking up what was already working in Oak Cliff. What they did instead was bypass the area of Zang / Methodist Medical Center / West Davis / and Jefferson by making an end run stretching out the light rail line further beyond towards other interesting parts of Oak Cliff. In the process, they also directly connected the Cedars neighborhood south into downtown Dallas. Yet, now they are in the process of directly connecting the already aforementioned north Oak Cliff in as well by running a trolley.

So, sometimes it is best not to run a light rail line into a neighborhood. As it stands, North Oak Cliff is becoming a large transit oriented development served by a trolley. Connecting the zoo in Oak Cliff is something DART was able to do while Metro in Houston wasn't able to do so with the zoo in Herman Park. And that part of the DART system is quite beautiful around that area the way it cuts through a winding wooded creek.

In time, TOD development should work. The effort to make things more efficient, in a civil engineering sense, works against the state agenda which still supports the automobile whether that be the assembling of new cars, car dealerships, auto insurance, and auto maintenance facilities. Over time, residential areas built between vacuums between retail and business centers should become popular.

I predict Deep Ellum will be the next for TODs. There has been a lot of movement behind the scenes which should soon make news.

You can't do much in this area because it is all an historic district.

There are some empty lots though. A few projects didn't make it past the recession, but the land is there. I think what ANLr is referring to is the guy that's buying up all of the land there and said there would be some major renos of existing properties and some redevelopment of available land.

No idea about the Orange Line (actually I think it will have little impact - I think for many years, most people riding DART from the airport will just want to get to their final destination), but Walnut Hill TOD has to burn the CityPlace guys right? That area is at least as decrepit as CityPlace is, and they get TOD and CityPlace gets a Sam's Club.
