Well, I'm curious. I hear Oak Cliff is pretty bad, as well as East Dallas. People from Oak Cliff tell me East Dallas is worse.
This might bring some negative thing to the Dallas Part of the Forum but I figure It'll help people decide where NOT to go.
What do you people think of Southern Irving, I go down there all the time. Some people say its dangerous, it has a high Hispanic Population. But I've walked outside at night by myself without problems. The Area seem to be getting much better. Thing tend to be easier to get around if you speak Spanish, I fill that in but...yeah, don't forget to put what parts of Tarrent County you think are bad as well ...

Not all of Oak Cliff, there are still some good parts to it. I might be wrong but I'm thinking the northern section of it. Someone correct me if that's not right.

Tarrant County - East Arlington between I-20 and I-30, also parts of central Arlington. Eastern portion of Fort Worth along Loop 820, again between I-20 and I-30 more or less. I've lived and/or worked in or near both areas.

It's all pretty subjective, crime happens everywhere. Quite often an area is thought to be bad simply because there is a high percentage of minorities.

I'm a minority and was almost carjacked when I got lost somewhere near I-30. Facts are facts.

Feeling safe or unsafe is subjective.

Crime stats are less so. The Dallas Crime Map will allow interested parties to plot various kinds of crimes on a map to check their distribution. No demographic information is overlaid onto the map, as far as I saw.

Up until about 2 months ago, Yahoo's neighborhood profiles by zipcode did a good job compariing the zip with national crime stats in various categories. That functionality went away; too negative?

I heard that some sectors of Northwest Dallas are the worst in DFW for crime...worse than SOC, southeast Dallas, etc. I'm not surprised; Oak Cliff has a reputation that doesn't always match the reality. I'm not saying Oak Cliff is a GREAT part of town, but there are worse areas.

I wouldn't be surprised if Oak Cliff became Lakewood II.

The southern parts of Oak Cliff haven't been good since the 1950s. Kessler Park and North Oak Cliff are nice.

The part of East Dallas around Fair Park and between Baylor Hospital and I-30 are not nice, like around Carroll Avenue. (Yes, there are lovely historic homes in that area, too.) East Dallas on Gaston Avenue once you pass Lakewood but before you get to Baylor can also be scary.

Some parts of Northwest Dallas (on the west side of Love Field) are also pretty rough.

I drive through Oak Cliff. There are some very nice homes and the area has lots of nice trees and parks. There are bad parts, but some very nice parts as well. I think Oak Cliff will become built back up in the next 10 years or so. Especially with the revitalization of Dallas. People are going to be looking for shorter commutes in the future.
