Booker T had three presidential scholars last year - but I would say we have a better blend of academics plus the arts. See this thread also: http://www.city-data.com/forum/dalla...h-musical.html

Booker T. Washington is the premier high school for budding artists and performers in the area. Norah Jones, and Erykah Badu are both Booker T. grads.

I was talking to a mom a couple of weeks ago who told me the theater dept at Booker T was not nearly as good as theater at Woodrow. Her daughter had started out at Booker T, then switched to Woodrow (her neighborhood school) because of theater.

It's true - Woodrow is really better for both theater and choral music. Check the Cappie Awards - we also beat Highland Park, Hockaday/St. Mark's etc. One-Act, like the Mock Trial Team, almost always advances to state. We have a 51 year track record of phenomenal community involvement for the musicals - everyone comes back. Our large-Broadway style auditorium (complete with 1928 Tiffany chandeliers) is usually full for every performance.

I will certainly give Booker T its due for other things, although our visual arts department, headed by David Chapa for nearly 25 years, is wonderful. The other advantage we have is our great athletic department (tied for #6 with Frisco out of all North Texas 4-A schools in the Dallas News All-Sports Rankings) plus we have marching band, cheerleading, drill team and other things not offered at the magnets.
