The old trains and locomotives that have been at Fair Park are being moved to the new railroad museum in Frisco, just south of Market Square. One of the Big Boys (largest steam locomotives ever built) was supposed to move last weekend but it was cancelled by the railroad. The museum has no control over when they can move it. I hope to go watch the progress at some point. The museum has a Facebook page which tracks the movement. If any of you are interested: https://www.facebook.com/HistoricTrains.

That's pretty cool - wish I could see it on the rails again in person!

It's not yet scheduled and will move on a Sunday. Not under its own power, unfortunately. You can see the route online and can track its movement once started.

Thank you for sharing! I have a train-obsessed son, so we'll definitely keep an eye on the move plans

Wasn't that train so massive and long that it had to be designed truncated like those really long buses had to be?

Might you possibly mean "articulated"?

Might be moving this Sunday, Aug. 18. Look at the museum's web site for up-to-date info.

It just left Fair Park. Goes to Irving to get turned around, then passes through Carrollton and finally Frisco. Might be 5 -7 pm before it gets to the new museum site. She only goes at 10 mph. I'm going to a Carrollton site I scoped out to view it. On their FB page you can follow the progress if you want to try and see it.

Just an FYI: it's still just outside Fairpark. I'm a hair up the tracks and no sign yet.

Yeah, I'm at Union Station waiting for the Amtrack train to move out. Once it passes Big Boy, they should be able move. Talk here is it might have to overnight in Irving if it gets too dark to sagely move.
