This is such a wonderful tool and I know it drives responders nuts when people don't use specifics, so i will do the best I can

My wife and I are considering a move from DC Metro Area to Dallas. We both have the ability to work from home. We like the heat, hate the cold, we have a three year old and while we really like the DC/Northern Virginia area, we are concerned about getting priced out of the DC area and the pace of life is getting to us as well as the traffic (which I know is an issue in DFW as well).

From what we have researched, the Dallas suburbs seem very appealing to us - our interest is in a new build SFH/townhome or Condo (amenties, pool, etc.) in perhaps a planned community - we don't need something huge. When others complain about how boring some DFW suburbs are with McMansions, etc. and that these areas "lack character", this is exactly what we are looking for (I guess we're just shallow people) - family oriented communities with low crime, good schools, etc. Budget is 400K to 500K. My wife is Asian and we've been in all sorts of communities across the US and we have experienced little to no racism, but it would be nice for her not to be the only non-white person around.

Open to all ideas. Thank you in advance!!

There are a lot of Asians in Plano-Richardson. 400-500k will get a very nice house. No need for condo IMO.

My wife is Asian and Im Arab and we live in Plano. Tons of Asians and Arabs here, great place to live, exceptionally diverse, excellent schools, and no racism problems whatsoever.

Sounds like a good move for you but WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT BUY A CONDO / TOWNHOME IN THE DFW BURBS. Easily one of the worst financial moves you can make. Just buy a smaller home, even a zero-lot line home. You probably dont need to spend more than $300k to find what you're looking for here.

If you are concern about scool district, then you should look into University Park area. The only problem is you will need to stretch your budget.

look in Castle Hills. It is what you describe and is well located.

I certainly think Plano makes the most sense. Look at the boxes it checks: 1) Asian, 2) cookie cutter homes, 3) price, 4) good schools, 5) nice community.

Plano should be the first place you check out, but I would put in a vote for Frisco, Allen, or McKinney. They all have excellent school districts, good community, and your money goes a bit further. You are also more likely to find a new build in a planned community in those areas--not so much in Plano. Plano is ten minutes away from Frisco/Allen and another ten minutes on top of that from McKinney.
