Hello! I'm pretty worried about the situation I am in, I have been looking for a place to live for a while now but I haven't found one. I've been getting mixed reviews on several different place I have been interested in or the rent is too high for me. I'm currently living in the Fresno area in California and plan to move to the Dallas area very soon for schooling purposes. I will not be having that much money because I have a student income. I have enrolled in fall and spring classes in my current college and I will not be having the luxury of living in the dorms because I plan on being a resident of TX before enrolling in a school for my undergraduates. Hence moving to TX a year before I get my transfer unit complete.

I'm a 22 year old female and I'll be living by myself. So safety is a huge thing for me. Where is a good place in Dallas that is near UTD that is safe and has reasonable cost of living for my income (minimum wage)?

Welcome! Knowing your income is a little less useful than knowing what your monthly rent budget would ideally be. That will enable the many knowledgeable folks in this forum help you much more!

Well ideally something below 450 would be awesome, I know that there aren't a lot of apartments out there that have that. I really doubt there would be one for even 550. I have about 5k of money saved up but I don't want it all gone before I get a job you know.

Safety and $550 are mutually exclusive. You need to rent a room.

Still too low. Find a room to rent or a roommate on Craig's List.

DO NOT live in the tiny, cramped apartments along McCallum, or on Spring Valley between 75 and Coit. Those are NOT safe areas.

Is that basically Richardson? I drove around there once and didn't get a good vibe about the area

That is southwestern Richardson. Kind of sketchy. Most of Richardson is OK though.
