Plano or McKinney? (Dallas, Frisco, Addison: apartment, how much, house)

Looking to get the hell out of southern California for many reasons and by end of the year. Both cities look good, McKinney is a bit further out from Dallas and Plano looks a bit cheaper? Which area is nicer and friendlier?

They are both good choices. A comparable home in Plano is definitely not cheaper than McKinney. You'll pay a premium for the Plano home, which has a better school district. In McKinney, you'll be able to find a newer and larger home for less than you would in Plano in most cases. The trade off is that McKinney is further away from Dallas, and doesn't have nearly the retail or amenities that Plano offers.

I currently live in McKinney, and lived in Plano for about 20 years. Tell us more about where your job would be, how much your budget is, etc, and we can give you more detailed advice.

Thanks. I work online, no kids and I'd like to keep it at or under $2k for a 3 bed house or large apartment.

Then you can live anywhere in TX you can get good internet service.

True but I dont know the area and Im sure there are pretty ghetto parts I'd like to avoid. Seems Plano and McKinney are the two best areas?

Next question then would be your social requirements.

McKinney, and to a large extent Plano, really are family centric suburbs. Married couples can do well, but singles looking for friends or dating have more problems. West Plano seems to have more singles than than the other areas of that city.

What do you enjoy doing outside of online work? A large part of Dallas is not ghetto and could be more fun for someone with no children.

Have you looked into Addison?

Dude.. if I were you I would look in Frisco. Frisco has everything you can imagine at your fingertips. You want to be very close to 121. If you do end up in Plano, again, make sure you are close to 121.. which would be considered west Plano. East Plano is ghetto.

Mckinney is farther out and if you ever do get a job where you have to drive to work, then Mckinney wouldn't be your best option.. unless you get a job very close to Mckinney.

I beg to differ. It may not be full of $500,000 to $1,000,000++ homes, but it is hardly ghetto.

I myself live in West Plano and consider it the 'IT' part of Plano but East Plano is far from ghetto. At least people living in Castle Hill and Frisco shouldn't be raising fingers at East Plano, its a mix of older/economical and newer/pricey homes with some expensive ranches. School and location are awesome and transformed old downtown is considered the new place to invest.
