It's funny how the same people who would most likely condemn those on welfare or aid want their own form of welfare by not paying tens of millions of dollars in tolls. This is an interesting study for sure and I am querying a news agency about creating a profile of the average "welfare recipient".

The top violators give us plenty of clues.

1 MELISSA S MARTINEZ SACHSE TX 75048 $153,046.47 2 DAWN H HENRY FRISCO TX 75035 $134,008.01 3 TARMEKA FLEMING GARLAND TX 75040 $132,014.92 4 LINDA GASKIN ALLEN TX 75013 $128,246.27 5 TYRONE HAMMOND PLUMERVILLE AR 72127 $123,485.54 6 ROBERT ANDERSON DALLAS TX 75287 $122,302.09

Welfare is one thing. Theft is another, it's shocking to me that NTTA didn't hammer these folks years ago.

Back in the coin toss days it was worse. We used to see people regularly toss nothing into the baskets, sort of a play on "air-guitar". I can still hear the ringing in my head as the jerk in front of me didn't pay.

All this proves is that lots of people are decrepit.

To be fair, the baskets didn't always realize that you'd thrown in two quarters. If I threw in 50 cents and the light didn't turn green, I went anyway...bell be damned. I paid my 50 cents; it's not my fault if they didn't record it properly.

What bugged me most about the coin toss days is when people would come up to the toll booth...then suddenly realize "Oh crap, I have to actually PAY!" and you'd be stuck behind them while they dug around for change. On a couple of occasions people actually got out of their cars to bum change off people in the cars behind them.

I have no issues with welfare when used properly. Now when you have people using it that don't need it or spend it on things it is not intended for....I equate that to theft as well.

The non paying charges are ridiculous. I bet that person that owes $150k probably only really owes around $6-$7k. They add a ridiculous amount on top of the bill. Im so happy I dont give the toll system a dime of my money anymore since I moved away from the toll roads.

You're right I recall the getting the buzzer treatment a few times after I'd tossed in real American coinage.

When I moved here went through a couple of tolls with a TN license plate. Didn't know how the system worked. After a couple of months I called and gave them my plate info to see what I owed. Was told they had nothing on my car. Uneasy about this called again a few weeks later. Still no record of tolls.

At that point I said screw it. Nearly two years later I get a 500 dollar toll bill. It was sent to my families old office where the car was registered in TN. One of the ladies that worked there put it together and mailed me the NTTA notice to me here in TX. Was furious after receiving the bill. Called and asked how they thought it was a legitimate business practice to send a bill to an out of state address nearly two years after someone went through a toll. They said that's just how they do it. Truly unbelievable.

The NTTA might as well be a organized crime family.
