Me and some co-workers somehow got on the subject of Clarice Tinsley the other day and the the infamous "swimming pool" incident came up. None of us could remember when this happened or who was the anchor/reporter that was fired due to this.
Does anyone remember this and if so can you give me the details?
I remember it was BIG news back when it happened!

It was Kevin McCarthy (SP?) the long time radio guy and one time voice of the Dallas Mavericks. His old radio show on KLIF was totally fantastic.

The pool incident must have occurred 25 or so years ago.

Thats what we were thinking...that it happened around 84-86. Kevin McCarthy, that definitely rings a bell.
Do you know exactly what happened?
We remembered that he threw her in the swimming pool as a joke, well the joke was definitely on him.
I have heard that Clarice can be a real B***H, so him being fired sounds about right.

Well he told the story on his radio show a time or two.

All I remember is he claims he and a number of other people tossed her into the pool. She says it was just him or that he was the main instigator. She whined to management and had him fired. Listening to Kevin's show for years one could reasonably make inference that a little scotch whisky was involved.

An old friend of mine is a world class professional photographer who worked with Clarice and other news types for many years. He says she used to be a tyrant that most everyone hated but that she calmed down a lot over the years.

I dunno, I'm on her side here. Who throws another adult into a pool?

I guess she has calmed down over the years because she knows her position at KDFW is pretty much secured!
Did you see what happened to her last night?

LOL, good one.

She's been doing this for so long she could probably read a teleprompter through just about anything.

FWIW I met her when I was a kid and she was very sweet to me. Gloria Campos was a total witch to me, and David Finfrock was just like Ned Flanders.

This one will only make sense to latchkey kids from the '80s, but I met the guy from BJ & Lester's Cartoon Clubhouse from Channel 39 waaaaaaaaay back in the day, and he was super nice too.

She earned the sobriquet "Chlorine" Tinsley from that incident.

I never heard that, but then again I was 9 years old in 1984.
