For those who haven't been Tuesdays are usually get in for $2 with a coke can and all the midway rides are half off. Sadly we won't be there this year as we moved to Seattle for my husbands job! If you have kids that love rides, the half off makes a big difference.

Several years ago, I got in for $2 because I brought in 3 cans of food. They collect for the North Texas Food Bank, I believe. I used to LOVE going to the fair...and in a way, there are still so many things to do and to enjoy. I find it to be REALLY LOUD though...like everywhere you go, the noise from all the music and vendors and rides...I don't mind the crowds and I don't mind "people" noise...but the music is blasting non-stop. I feel bad for all the animals.

Anywho...there is a vendor inside the Grand? building (you know, the one with the hot tubs and sewing machines) that sell packets of dip mix and soup mix...they have pretzel sticks to try the dozen of different flavors...call me crazy, but I LOVE this dip!! I like the lemon whip one, too, for fruit. I love the corny dogs as well (you're almost crazy if you don't!!) and I like the quiet parts near the DAR and Women's Museum. Don't forget to visit the Texas Lotto stand...you get a spin on the wheel for some kind of prize, I think.

Overall, it is pretty fun...I do actually get tired of all the fried food but somethings you just have to try. Oh, those tamales inside the food pavilion (Pedro's, I believe) are delicious. They sometimes sell them to Taco Bueno on a limited basis...I could snack on those all day and be perfectly happy. I like sitting at the water fountain area between the auto buildings for a nice breezy moment of relaxation.

I think the newcomer will enjoy it very much...I wish it wasn't so loud or I'd go more frequently (last time I went was about 3 years ago). Enjoy everyone...IT STARTS TOMORROW!!

Since the OP has the questions answered and the bickering over "state" fair has gotten out of control, this thread has run its course and is closed.
