My husband just got a job in Fort Worth and I just got a job in Downtown Dallas. We plan to live in Arlington to split the difference, but we want to live near I 30 to make for an easier commute. Can anyone tell me of some nice neighborhoods and schools in that area. Is there another area we should be looking in that would fit our needs?

Thanks for yor help!

You may wish to be a little more specific as to what you are looking for: Condo vs. SFR, number of bedrooms, are you looking to rent or to buy, price range, etc. If either/both of you have hobbies or interests that are important, if either of you are willing to deal with a longer commute than the another, how important are schools? (Keep in mind, the better the school system, the higher the property values are going to be.)

I am not personally familiar with Arlington, but I know the more details you can provide as far as what you are looking for, the more likely you are to recieve feedback that might help point you in the right direction.

Good luck on your new move!

If you want to be near I-30, stay north of it and west of Hwy. 360. That's where the better neighborhoods are nestled in the hills and trees. There are nice ones south of I-30, too, but most are on the north side until you move a little more west past Fielder Road. If you buy up there you need to be aware of the water treatment plant that sometimes emits odd odors - but I understand it's not often. River Legacy Park is in this part of town and it's very nice.

If you go west of Fielder Road off I-30 the better areas are south of the freeway. This is where the Interlochen area is, for example. Traveling south along Eastchase/Dottie Lynn/Green Oaks (same street with changing names!) will take you along the west side of town and most of the neighborhoods near Lake Arlington are desirable with good schools. The best schools in Arlington are on the SW side of town and any realtor will tell you that anything within the Martin HS attendance zone is desirable. The north side attends Lamar HS, which is a good school, too. We live in the Martin zone so I'll admit to being prejudiced!

It depends on what you're looking for, really, for home (or apt?) prices will vary according to neighborhood. Good luck!

You might also look at Hurst/Euless/Bedford so that you do not have to bother with 360, which is a nightmare.

I agree. The HEB area is really nice, and 183 is a LOT easier to deal with than I-30 or 360. I drove 121 into downtown Fort Worth for work for a year and I had hardly any delays.
