I have a GE profile built-in gas cooktop. During a cleaning a week ago it started clicking (trying to ignite even though the knobs are in off position). The only way to stop it is to unplug from power. I thought some moisture has gotten into the switches and that it would dry out eventually, and the problem would resolve itself but it has not happened so far. I also tried drying it out with a hair dryer.

Any hints how to fix it, there does not seem to be any access from underneath so I think I would need to lift the top from above.

Also, can anybody recommend an appliance repair company.

thanks

Unplug it. Turn the gas off if you can. Remove all of the grates and iron caps and the little slotted rings. Clean everything with windex or similar - but do not clean any of the metals parts in your dishwasher.

At each burner you'll almost certainly see little spark-plug looking ignitors. Using an old toothbrush and isopropyl alcohol, clean each ignitor brushing each one all the way around between the porcelain and the little metal piece that stick up. Take two or three minutes per ignitor. 85% chance this will fix your problem.

When you are done brushing go away for 30 minutes to make sure all of the alcohol evaporates.

After 30 minutes reconnect the power plug and test each burner.

ETA - when the caps are removed from each burner make sure you don't drop anything down the gas tubes. Small quantities of alcohol spilled down a tube will cause no issues - just wait an hour before replacing the rings, caps and grates.

Thanks. I looked at the ignitors couple of days ago, and they seemed clean but I'll clean them up again. I thought it might be the switches (the ones you see underneath the knobs) because originally it started clicking when not in use.

Yesterday, I had it plugged in for some time and it seemed fine, but after a while the clicking has resumed.
