Prior to the Cowboys leaving the Cotton Bowl and whenTexas Stadium was built, there was a proposed remodel or "Capital Improvment" plan for Fair Park and the Cotton Bowl which would have rejuvinated the entire area back in the 60s. The story goes that the city council did not approve the proposal and had little mayoral support largly because the teams owners (Murchisons) were looking for an infusion of funds and tax incintives from the city. Sound familiar? One of the reasons that the owners chose the site in Irving tor Texas Stadium was so the then mayor of Dallas could see the new stadium from his office window. True Story
