Default Where can I find some "authentic" Mexican food in Plano?

All I have been able to find is "Tex Mex" Mexican food here in Plano. I "know" with the Hispanic population here, there has to be an "authentic" Mexican restaurant somewhere.....

I don't care if it's a hole in the wall kinda place, I'm just craving some "real" Mexican food. Any suggestions?

Manny's in Uptown Dallas is great. They have a satelite location in Frisco. I don't know if that one is as good as the original though. Try the brisket tacos/enchiladas.

Thank you! I live in north Plano, so it's a hop, skip and a jump to Frisco.

Ack, I see they're a Tex Mex restaurant too. What I am looking for, is someplace that serves shredded beef meat in their food, carne asada, and carnitas. And all this would be made from scratch. Home made tortillas would be a big plus too.

I can't stand a taco made from ground beef....it just isn't Mexican to me.

It's really not here, ladys as far as I know, but perhaps if you start exploring the hole in the wall places filled with non-English speakers you'll do better. I spent a few years in the futile pursuit of a shredded beef fried taco. Now I make my own shredded beef. Lately I am seeing more and more brisket tacos, but the flavor and texture is not the same. I found a shredded beef recipe from the San Diego Union Tribune and it uses chuck roast, some tomatoes and chiles, and it tastes just like what I was looking for. Good crock pot recipe if you have one. I don't so I had to cook it in the oven for hours and hours.

Well that's discouraging...lol Yes, I guess I'll try the small places filled with Mexicans - hopefully they will speak English.

I know how to make it myself, I was just hoping to find somewhere to go out to. I used to manage a Mexican restaurant in So. Cal years ago.....my husband jokingly referred to me as a taco technician....LOL

Did you use chuck roast?

By the way, I'll be at your house as soon as I get off work.

LOL Yes I use chuck roast, or 7 bone roast. I just cook it like I normally do whether in a crock pot, or the oven, then season whatever dish I'm using it in. I usually stir fry it real quick in lard before I use it, just to give it that good Mexican flavor.

I live alone so there's not much use in me fixing such a large batch of food. That's why I was hoping I could find a restaurant.

There is a La Paloma Taqueria on Avenue K in Plano, they have several other locations throughout the metroplex. The one in Plano is located in a former Taco Bell pad. There are some other places, but I can't recall names off the top of my head.
