Hi, i'm a native of Portland, OR and I'm looking to move to Dallas within the next two months. My plan is to rent a room off Craigslist or somewhere for three months and use that time to search for a job full-time. I'm in my late twenties and have pretty much only worked retail jobs, so I will be looking for entry-level, non-specialized type of jobs (customer service, administrative assistant, etc.)

I have a couple of questions. If you need more information, please ask.

1. I'm used to taking public transportation because I don't own a car. Portland has very good transportation system that allows you get around quite nicely. How is transportation in Dallas when you don't own a car and will need to be getting around for job interviews?

2. I'm looking for an area of Dallas to rent a room that will be safe, cheap (at or under $500 per month), close to public transportation, and fairly racially diverse. Where would you recommend?

Thank you.

You probably need to try and find a job downtown since its going to be most accessible to public transportation.
You'll need to find a temp living situation on a bus line or near a rail station. Public transportation is possible but somewhat limited. Your budget is going to be a challenge unless you get a room with someone.

You might check out East Dallas. You can use public transportation to get from there to downtown or most retail and office areas. You can probably find something in your budget if you're open to an older, smaller complex.
