You could always go to Burning Man and ignite a giant effigy of Big Tex... :/

It's just wrong. You can call him Big Tex if you want, but his face is so wrong now that I'm trying to come up with a new name for him. BTW - the Big Tex of 1952 is not what we lost last year, as his face had undergone some subtle changes since then to make him seem more human. This new face is someone completely different. I say...."FAIL".

I think someone owns his older head version (not the one pictured but the one before the burned up one). I seem to remember reading an article about it last year.

Yes the eyes are creepy...just wait until they move! DMN had a picture of someone working on his head and the eyes were shifted to the side. So I'm guessing they are going to move.

He is OK but I cant stand those boots though. Nice work of art on them but they just look out of place. I think he would have looked a bit better and more in body perspective if the pants went over the boots.

Any bets if his voice will be live or "Memorex"? And if live will we actually meet the person? Seems management had issue with the last one being too visible.

Yea that's one thing. Everybody knows Big Tex had a big head. He's built kinda like a chubby 6 year old (but taller).

Most of the area TV stations are running similar polls on the new Big Tex, and all have huge margins favoring the old version versus the new version. For instance WFAA (Channel 8) viewers voted for the following preferences as of a few minutes ago:

Old Big Tex: 73%
New Big Tex: 9%
No pref.: 18%

I find it a bit odd that the members here seem to like the newer version so far. Maybe the fair officials will wake up and for next year, get Tex back to looking more like himself rather than the chubby Mexican kid he now resembles.

Ouch!

As far as his eyes and eyebrows... looks like a double for Dr. Oz (see photo), yuck!

Regardless, I'm glad to see that they were able to get a Big Tex rebuilt for this year's State Fair... he's the icon everyone has grown to expect to see and hear each year... it just would not be the same without him there welcoming ya in!
