Depending on one's viewpoint, this thing may be a boondoggle (or just a part of a larger boondoggle), but that's one bitter article! Certainly there was more to the planning of this bridge than just building a new bridge for the sake of it. Aren't there redevelopment plans for the west side of the river in conjunction? I don't know, I'm just asking. Seems there would be.

You must consider the source. The Observer's bread and butter is being overly critical of Dallas City Hall, politicians, and other "easy to hate" entities throughout the area.

Dallas city government. We can't fix our roads, keep pools open or mow our parks, but we can fund a hideous bridge no one needs, that costs between 3 and 4 times the estimate, and can't open in time for the opening party.

This bridge was already planned decades ago. It can't open because the days of rain we had in January slowed construction.

There's development plans in the works as we speak because of the bridge. On the news they said once the bridge opens developers will buy up land around the bridge. They are already building a new development around the bridge called Trinity Groves. If this bridge was never built West Dallas would have never had plans to be redeveloped.

Ah, yes, that bridge to nowhere. What a waste.

I'm also tempted to diss the bridge as going to nowhere. Especially when seeing the satellite picture.

On the other hand, it'll probably be a perfectly reasonable bridge a couple of decades from now after some more progress.
