I am moving to Dallas from Denver and thinking about buying house and settling down there. I am an RN and my husband works in IT field(computer programmer). Whats the ideal country place to buy house in? I heard South Dallas is not that safe? How about Cedar Hill, Medlathion etc.? What are some country areas towards North Dallas? I don't want to live in suburbs since we like our privacy and need some space from neigbors, but we don't want to be too far away from grocery stores etc. either. Currently we are thinking about Mc Kinney, Allen , Wylie etc. We are looking for a 4 bed/ 3+ bath house, with an acre+ backyard and pool and 2500+ sqft... Our budget is 250k - 450k and 500k the max in exceptional cases though we prefer the lower/middle range. How safe are the above mentioned paces? Also, where are the IT jobs located in dallas? I found lot of jobs in the north side like Richardson, Plano etc.

Also we have a 1 year old son, so good school districts are a must as well.
About commute : 40-45 minutes drive should be OK if we find our ideal house...

You really need to find out where you will be working before deciding where to live in order to not have a horrible commute. Yes, most of the IT jobs will be in Richardson and Plano. Your wife will have more varied places to work as there are hospitals all over the area, but there are some clusters of hospitals just northeast of downtown, and on 75 at Northwest Highway.

Speaking of that, how long of a commute are you both willing to endure?
Are schools important? If so, that will be a game-changer.

You will not find what you are looking for in Plano or Allen. Those cities are typical suburbia.

The southern part of Dallas generally isn't safe. Cedar Hill is nice, but commuting from there to Richardson/Plano would be absolutely horrible. Midlothian is also a very lengthy commute, and there are some concerns with air quality from the many cement kilns there.

Thanks for the response Chrisitie.. So assuming most probably my hubby will find IT job in the northern area, what are some country options towards the north that come under 40 minute commute?

Lots in Parker are mostly 1+ acre. Grocery stores in Plano, Allen and Murphy but none in Parker. Most of Parker is in the Plano ISD.

Actually if you put the criteria into the real estate site, there were actually quite a few that met the OPs requirement in the area surrounding Murphy (Parker, Sachse, St Paul). Actually surprised Murphy didn't get a hit or two. But the homes in S Murphy just seem to get snatched up fast.

Thanks MurphyPl1, I did try searching in Parker, Sachse, St. Paul through Zillow. But didn't return any results. (4 bed/3+ bath, 2500+ sqft, 1/2 acre+, pool, 250k - 500k)

Though its a good thing to do research, my suggestion is to rent first, settle down, get a feel for the area, find jobs before buying...

If schools are of no concern you could look in Lavon.
