Dallas and the surrounding areas have a multitude of festivals. Beer, Chili, Art, Music, Balloon, etc. etc. etc. We also have some of the top steak restaurants in the nation. Comparing Dallas's seafood scene to New Orleans is like comparing San Francisco's or New York's Asian cuisine to Louisiana, it's just not a fair comparison. As far as tailgating goes, SMU host's multiple opponents throughout the season as well as TCU. You also have the Rangers, Cowboys and NASCAR. Just some things to keep in mind!

I am absolutely shocked that Dallas doesn't have a seafood festival! And neither does Little Rock, Oklahoma City and Memphis. I have no clue why they don't.

I think New Orleans is 'fun' in a way Dallas isn't because all the good stuff is in one very small area, and the rest that you never go as a visitor is spread out. The area around Cowboys Stadium isn't fun, the area around SMU isn't fun, there is no regular sporting with tailgating near McKinney Ave or Addison, etc. The good stuff in Dallas is very spread out. It's fun, but it's not the same.

Baton Rouge, on the other hand, is a no-comment.

If your idea of fun is a sea food festival and tailgating, I can not predict what would make you happy.

Some places are great to live in, Dallas fits that category, and some are great for tourism, SF is in that category. I like living in Dallas/Plano and do not get bored here. I miss Houston's plentiful seafood choices and at reasonable cost for the quality and rarity. Houston or NO are not far for a weekend to get your seafood fix. Tailgate? drive to Austin or up to Norman, its not that far either to get your fix

Dallas isn't boring, but I'm sure most people would agree that it's not as exciting as New Orleans. Few cities are, though.

Agree 100%. Though the pull of the mountains and ocean are making it hard for me to stay in Dallas much longer....

If dodging bullets and gang shootouts is your idea of excitement, you betcha man, NOLA is one really exciting (& dangerous) place !

Apparently you have not been to an SMU game:

I have been. Spent a few years in grad school there. Went for Tx Tech vs SMU this year as a matter of fact. It's not that great, and it's very provincial as in there is little interaction between the various frats and other groups that set up tents and booths. As a matter or fact, they always had someone checking student ids at the Cox Booth to make sure no non-college of business people got free food. (hot dogs, burgers, and Tab lol). In short, it's exactly what you would expect an expensive private college tailgate to be like.

And Ford Stadium is beautiful, but the SMU football in-game experience is pretty weak, even compared to other small privates like TCU and Baylor.
