For the locals...
I'm thinking of purchasing a property on the west side of Dallas.. around Parry Ave & Stonewall Street. I'm not from TX.. any helpful thoughts about the area? Decent? Is it considered family oriented or full of crime?
Thanks so much!

First, Parry Ave & Stonewall St is not on the western side of Dallas. It's next to Fair Park, SE side of Dallas. Probably the worst that you could have picked. What made you decide on that area?

There is potential there - the new DART rail station will open in 1 1/2 years, the old Ford Plant has been purchased by a Dallas developer and some of the bad homes have been replaced by Habitat for Humanity homes. Also the Democratic Party Headquarters of Dallas is at 4209 Parry. I know two other people who own businesses in the area.

Yes -sorry, I meant the east side. I am looking for a blue collar area, and a realtor had proposed a property around the area. I wanted to make sure that a safe/stable area, or at least up and coming.
I had not read about any of those new developments.

No problem... let us know if you want some suggestions, because there are safer areas around here that might be a better fit. Include what you're looking for, i.e., family or single environment, how much you want to spend, what area you'll be working in so you won't have a long commute, etc., and we'll see what we can come up with for you.

Is this for an investment property? To be rented out?

If you go north of I-30 to Mount Auburn it's a better area (also exemplary elementary) - the closer you can get to Hollywood Heights (starts at Valencia) the better.

Great, thank you. Yes, this would be as an investment. I'm trying to get a feel for the areas..definitely want to stay on the blue collar/safe side of town. Is it safe to say further south, and maybe west of I45 is better (by Cedar Crest Blvd/Grand Ave area)? I appreciate your help!
