Hi everyone!

I just moved to Plano and when my friends came in town, we went to the stockyards in Fort Worth and have never seen dancing like this in our lives lol. I wanna learn how to do it for next time, any ideas of where I can learn? Also, do I have to have a partner?

Thanks

Yes, for two-stepping you need a partner. You can line dance without a partner, but that is not as much fun.

Check with a Plano-area community center to get cheap lessons on how to two-step. I don't think you would need to bring a partner to that, but you might not necessarily like your partner you are stuck with if that makes sense. There are also private dance lessons if you don't like the idea of doing it at a community center.

Then to put it into practice, there are a few country-dance places in DFW where you can go. I think the most popular is Cowboys Red River in Irving. You wouldn't need to bring a partner there either. If you are a female, then single guys will ask you to dance. If you are a guy, you'll have to ask the single females. It's easier and more relaxed than it sounds.

Then you will be a pro the next time you go to the Ft Worth Stockyards, and you can teach all your friends.

I forget the names of dances as I am now old, but I recall the two-step being a simplified version of waltz maybe? You can take fancier ballroom type dancing as well, and apply it to two-stepping.

It's been awhile, but the boot-scootin' dance halls used to have group classes. More fun to go with a group, but singles are usually welcome as well.

Just googled Cowboys Red River. They have dance classes.
Dance Lessons - Dallas

White Horse Saloon near North Park also seems to have lessons.

Honestly, if you really want to learn how to dance, go to a dance school. Even a couple of lessons from the Arthur Murray places will teach you better than someone in a bar...

Looking at their website, you are committed to more than "a couple of lessons" and the curriculum teaches ballroom steps and doesn't mention country/western dance at all.

Just to throw this out there and confuse you, there is a "regular" 2 step that has a shuffle of your feet and then there is the Ft Worth 2 step where they actually only take 2 steps. Very different feel to them. I took Country Dance and Ballroom dance for 2 semesters each in college, and they work great on the Dallas side of town, but in Ft Worth, they just move differently so be prepared.

Well, that is what I was thinking too. I thought they danced great, but had no clue what they were doing! It was almost like a western swing
