Default Looking for a decent rental home in Northwest Dallas

My husband and I are relocating to the Dallas area and have two dogs. We would really like to find a rental home as opposed to an apartment because of the dogs. I don't like to spend a lot on rent because it's pretty much money out the window, and we aren't interested in buying because an another move is possible in the next few years. Where is the best area to look for a nice home at an affordable price?

Hi. We've been renting for a couple of months now while we look for a home to buy in the area. We have a dog and so did not want an apartment. We found our home after seeing quite a few with our realtor. I'm not sure what an affordable price is for you but a realtor should be able to get you a list of decent properties. Many of he newspaper ads we looked at were in pretty awful areas. If you aren't familiar with the area I would highly recommend getting a realtor to help you out. The way it worked with ours was that she got paid by the landlord. We did have to add on a small amount to our rent as a pet fee but it was really convenient having a realtor make all our phonecalls to prospective landlords and having her get us in to see the places.

Check on realtor.com, go to advanced search, and check the option for rental homes (uncheck the rest) and search in the area you're interested in, either by city or by zip code. You can also go to craigslist.com and search in the apt/homes under housing for rentals for all of the Dallas area.

Check in Bedford, North Richland Hills, Flower Mound, Grapevine, Carrollton and Keller. Valley Ranch in North Irving would be good but you won't find a house for that rent amount... Euless and South Irving, maybe, but it's really iffy there, as in... safe & unsafe.

Hope this helps and good luck to you.

There were some smaller homes adjacent to Bluffview neighborhood off Lemmon but you would probably want to stay near or north of Lover's - can't think of the name of that neighborhood, but I think it is being invaded by McMansions. Also just north of Northwest Hwy (Loop 12) west of Inwood there was a similar area. Of course all that may be too expensive now, I haven't been over there in years.

Off Marsh north of NW Hwy there also used to be some nice rental homes, but I am no longer sure about that area.

If anyone knows the names/status of these neighborhoods, could you post?

It might be a bit difficult finding an independent rental home in a nice area for that amount. We looked at quite a few in Carrollton and nw Dallas and the prices were definitely over 1000. Perhaps if you look for a ground floor apt or a townhome you might have better luck staying within budget?
