Hi,

I plan to relocate to the Dallas metro area from my current residence in Detroit metro. The job market for my skills is great here but the weather is terrible to say the least.

Please help me answer my below questions that will help me make a decision:
1. How is the school district in the Plano area? Any suburbs you would recommend ? I will be moving out from an area which has great schools rating.
2. What am I looking to pay to move into a 4BR, and >2 Bath house (at the most 15 yrs old) ?
3. Any health factors that I should consider moving ?
4. How is the IT/tech job market
5. Cost of living, how should I be negotiating my compensation?

Thanks in advance.

Before we answer, do you have a job lined up or enough money saved up to compensate you for three months while you look?

1. Plano ISD has one of the best school districts in Texas and usually comes in #2 in the north Texas area behind HPISD.
The red numbers are nation ranking:

4. Pretty strong. Austin is the only stronger city in Texas.

Where is your office located in Dallas and what price range are you looking at? Or are you initially planning to rent, which is a good thing to do before buying in a new place.

I am looking around Plano, Allen, Frisco. Thinking of renting for a few months initially and then buying a house.

Those are all strong school districts with Plano being the strongest of the 3. Unless you are into football.....then Allen.

1) Excellent. Skaggs Elementary in Plano is ranked the best elementary school in North Texas and the 2nd best in the entire state. If you dont like Plano, then Allen, Frisco, and Richardson all have excellent school districts.

2) Probably $1800 to $2500 depending on the area.

3) Not a one.

4) Excellent in some areas, not as great in others. Overall its extremely healthy.

5) No idea on that one.
