My alma mater (Woodrow Wilson High in Lakewood) is famous for its choir and theater program -the theater program began when the school opened in 1928 and the musicals began in 1957-58 (we were the first school to do a full-scaled Broadway show).
We are in the Cappies program, which is sort of like the high school Tony Awards. Our 50th show, "Fiddler on the Roof" won best musical against the most prestigious private and public schools in Dallas/Fort Worth see: Dallas, TX Cappies (broken link) - the site is a little out of date. We usually get a best actor or best actress award too...I think we had 7 awards for Fiddler. I will get you some links...our next show is "Our Town" Woodrow’s Fall Play this year is Thornton Wilder’s “Our Town,” directed by John Beaird, and will be presented October 18-20 at 7:30 pm. On flyer for the play and a picture of the cast and crew – here are names: Front Row: Seniors Valerie Reynolds, Alex Jaremko, Spencer Miller, Lizzie Cochran, Sam Schuerger, Hayden Faram, LaQuetta Chism Second Row: Juniors Alex Horne, Kate Pederson, Katie Shank, Katie Cunningham, Sarah Merino, Brenna Buchanan, Andrea Graham, Rachael Regan, Audra Brock Back Row: Sophomores Emily Young, Chelsea Felton, Justin Bailey, Kobie Baus, Juniors Sean Draper, Ian Van Buren, Bryce Romney, Freshmen Bert Merino, David Graham |

I can put you in touch with the choir or theater arts director or any of a number of parents who could help you if you will pm me. We are a small school so you don't have to worry about being shut out. Everyone who wants to participate is able.

back to the original question, I would say Plano West, simply because it's the most academically competitive school on the list. Plano West churns out more National Merit Finalists than either Southlake or HP.

So I always ponder whether or not this means the high school is really good or that the students are basically really smart? I am guessing its some combination.

It's the nature vs. nurture argument. Plano West also has way more asian minorities than either Southlake or Highland Park. To be clear, I don't give Plano West any credit. It's become good because of its environment. The kids are really smart there because of the way they were raised by their parents. |

How large is Southlake ? -- and isn't Plano West 2-3 times the size of Highland Park? My school had the same number of semi-finalists as Frisco and both the McKinney high schools, which I believe are much larger than our 200 something senior class.
