McKinney is not a myth, I live here. It exists. You can send/receive mail here (and not like the letters kids write to Santa that get tossed in a dumpster behind the Post Office.)

Loloiol!!! OP mentioned that she is from UK and misses home. Its better to warn her that this is Texas. She can drink tea and watch Downton Abbey but that's about it.

We are relocating to Dallas in late April and I've been down (we are in Minnesota) several times now when my husband has been there for work. I did a LOT of research before my first trip in October and 'fell in love remotely' with McKinney because I too am looking for a walkable, vibrant downtown area, populated with single proprietorship businesses (the Twin Cities are practically one massive chain store/restaurant) and online, McKinney fit the bill.

And then I actually went there.

And I fell in love for real! Charming people, charming downtown, beautiful rolling hills, trees, trees and more trees! We've been down a few more times, and have met a bunch of folks who live there, and not one has said anything to discourage us from living there. Our plan is to rent for our first year (Texas is our final landing place) then find a house. I've heard very good things, from several residents, about Stonebridge.

My husband will be splitting his time between Frisco and downtown Dallas. When we've been there I have driven him back and forth into Dallas, then gone exploring. Traffic has been good and it's been bad, however, I've been able to hop off the Dallas North Tollway (DNT) and take secondary roads back up to the hotel in Frisco.

Have you thought about renting for a period of time? I was getting super stressed about moving and buying a house until our agent assured me we would be able to find a rental that would allow our three large dogs. Making the decision to rent has taken a LOT of pressure off of us.

Good luck! IMHO, you're not misguided in your enthusiasm for McKinney. I am so excited to move there this spring! (Heck, after the -21 air temp, -45 windchills of last week, I'm just thrilled to finally be getting out of Minnesota!)
