My husband and I are planning a move to Denton, but are hearing so many horror stories about the increase in oil well activity and fracking. We are concerned about health issues. We also don't want to buy a house in area where property values are risky.
Any comments from those who live in Denton? Thanks.

Just don't buy a house adjacent to open land and you should be fine. They can't drill in the middle of a neighborhood. Some open land is needed for that.

There's a well at the end of my street. Other than the truck traffic it generates, I don't worry about it.

Thank you for your response.
What we're hearing is that some old wells are now being used for fracking and people are finding they're closer to the drilling areas than they realized.
We have enjoyed visiting Denton, but might be having second thoughts about moving there.

I say think Azle and stay away. My late uncle lived in Coppell which sits on Barnett Shale, his neighbor's well water turned toxic after some fracking activity in the neighborhood. We were interested in buying in Coppell or Flower Mound, he warned us to stay away from that area.

Sorry. I don't believe that happened.

The implication that the neighbor's water turned toxic from fracking. Frankly I'm thrilled the industry is moving to using straight water and propane and maybe CO2. That way all of the nonsensical claims will stop.

G. Someone in Coppell is on well water.
H. That only this single individual in the metroplex has toxic water yet somehow the thousands of wells in the area (many that are much closer to residential areas. seen all the wells in arlington?) have not seen the same.

I have no idea if old dude was right or wrong or if fracking is safe or not but I'm not the kind who volunteers for scientific experiments.

Great points. I wonder if anyone in Coppell has well water? It can't be more than a few folks if any.

If someone's water went toxic from franking there'd be 6/8/10 more at least and no way to keep it quite.
