I believe in TX it is against the law without the in-transit tag. Some states like here in California don't even issue temporary tags. We have cars driving around with no tags or anything other than the dealership advertisement where the tag should go. I thought that was the weirdest thing when I moved here from TX. That and not being allowed to have anything hanging from the rearview mirror... The fresh prince could get a ticket for those dice in the mir'

I went to the Arlington courthouse today. I couldn't produce my proof of insurance when I was pulled over (it mysteriously disappeared from my glove box), but I was covered at the time I was pulled over. I also showed him that I had all the documents in my car that it was recently purchased in Georgia, along with my temp tag being current.

Anyway, I was told at the courthouse today that because I'd only been in the state for a week and that my car was insured, and my temp tag was dealer-issued and not expired, the officer had no grounds to write me a ticket, especially since I had no other violations. She said it doesn't matter that my tag is out of state. It is still legal as long as it's not expired and I haven't been driving in the state 30 days on an out-of-state license.

She told me to just bring all of my documentation to court to go before a judge and it will be thrown out.
