Wichita Falls/Archer City,TX
Well I moved from the lovely Lewisville,TX that I miss so much. Near Wichita Falls in Archer City. There's no Chipotle,Razzoo's, or even a Hooter's...I miss Grapevine Mills Mall and my parents nice and cozy big house. This place is country. Well here I am in a town where there is no one that looks like me. No one talks to me. I tried to speak to a few neighbors and I even said Hi and I was delibertely ignored. Few try hard to look in another direction. A few older people have spoken though but it was because they had to deal with me at the little stores there. Anyway
I'm black, and my husband is white, and my child is of course bi-racial and looks Hispanic. I just want my child to go to a school where she isn't mistreated because of our ethnicity. I say this because I heard horror stories about how black people have been mistreated and how their childern were wrongly treated in school. I could care less what people think of me I just want my child to be alright.
If anyone could tell me if Archer City ISD is an okay place to put my 6 year-old daughter. I would appreciate it. I'm thinking about it for the new school year in 2008 and right now we drive back and forth from Wichita Falls to take her to a Christian Private School.

I heard about Texans treating people like that. Shocker considering a lot of white men are trying to date black women down there. I live in California and plan on moving down to Dallas. I notice you did not get any responses so it would appear you need to direct your question outside that area to get a could response. good luck.

Just a thought, I am not familiar with Archer City at all and I'm sorry that you are experiencing difficulty with the locals.
I highly recommend that you visit the school that your daughter would attend may be during the time the school is out you can talk to some of the parents that are black and see how their children are treated and how they feel overall living there.
Do they have Tom Thumb over there? I think that Razzoo's and Chipotle sell some of their menu items frozen... it's not the same but until you return, it should do.
I have many bi-racial friends here and thank god, I am not aware of any incidents that they have encountered with some ignorant people in Texas. There is always an exception but Dallas is very diverse.
Europe24me is correct, you may want to repost under the general forum, may be some people familiar with the area will be able to help you too.

Thank you I appreciate your response. I will do that to see what response I get. BTW I believe my child will be the only one or the second one because the families that were here are no longer here anymore.

As far as the restaurants you mentioned, just give The Falls some time on those. Why have you decided on Archer City as a place to live? Why not the larger Wichita Falls??

Oh that is because my husband was already living in that city. May be in due time we will move before she starts 1st grade in September. I didn't know that there was nothing there. As for Wichita Falls I will give it some time. I just wish it had these places now.
Thanks for you comment

Wichita Falls can be very segregated. There is the Bright Ideas Charter School. I have heard good things about it. I went to high school in Wichita Falls. It's an okay school system but you have to be careful where your kids will go to school.
If you can, I would visit the schools when they aren't expecting you. You'll get the most realistic picture of what they are like.

Awesome! I will. You know my child she is going to the private Christian School in Wichita Falls,TX she likes it, but the it cost so much money. My child was going to Quail Valley in Lewisville,TX which is an excellent school. Her teach taught her everything. I loved the way it was set up too. She even learned basic Spanish. My child was very outgoing and loved to talk since the age of 1. You could actually understand everything she said at 1 because she talked so much. The school made an example out of her. Well since she has been going to school here she gets bored easily because she already knows the stuff. She starts 1st grade and I'm looking into some public schools in Wichita and Cummingham seems nice.
I'm still trying but I'm hoping we move back to Lewisville or Carrollton.

Archer City
Wow, I just read your post while doing research on Archer City. My husband may be about to take a job there which will require us to move there. I have 3 children, 2 in high school and a 2 year old. That scares me to hear that people there are not friendly to you. I would love for you to email me and update me on the circumstances there and if they have improved for you. This may affect my decision to move there at all. We are white, not that it matters: the point is I am not sure about leaving my great community to live in a community where everyone does not feel welcomed. My email address is tracy_e_macdonald@yahoo.com I would love to hear from you. Maybe if I do move to Archer City, we could even do lunch oneday. I will definitly need a friend there if we move.

I sure did e-mail you hun. Well I wouldn't want to change your mind if you are moving for a job. That is important. Well not everyone in Archer City is mean. The older people that live around me are nice. I like them. There are a few people around here that don't acknowledge me. It's like they don't even see me. I'm like whatever. Then there are people that do look at me crazy because of my daughter, but I know that is with any place but I realized the further in the country you are it's to be expected.
Your community you live in I would say is better than this. I'm from Lewisville, TX I so use to a certain lifestyle of shopping, going out to eat at every restaurant, and going to church down the street.
Well there aren't any grocery stores, clothing stores, or restaurants here. Just a bunch of old buildings mostly run down. I don't stay around this city much just to go home and sleep.
