Looking to move to the DFW area next year to be with my fiance and interested in staying within the industry I've been employed in. I'm an independent IT consultant (DBA/ERP implementation) and have my resume on various jobs boards but ALL offers are coming from Oil and Gas outfits here in Houston. I've not received a single response from DFW outfits outside of some smaller aeronautics companies and smaller tech consultancies looking for full-time DBA's. I'd certainly take advantage of this should time and opportunity afford it but I'm more curious as to why are so fewer Dallas employers in the fossil fuels business than Houston in such a short period. I understand much of the infrastructure is here but this has always been the case, as has our close proximity to ports. We have a simple, laid back lifestyle so money isn't necessarily the driving factor, its more about long-term and continued employment in the wake of economic turn down. Had I not taken projects outside of Texas in the mid recession years I would've been hard pressed to believe such a recession existed due to my employer being in the natural gas sector.

Any one else notice this? Has this been discussed before?

Houston has 20 oil and gas jobs for everyone in Dfw area. Dfw is North America land based oil and gas while Houston is global. Odds are you will see the same ration oh Houston to DFW o&g jobs.

DFW us a large US oil and gas market but not the largest in Texas by miles

Clarify your question if I missed the mark.

No I think you've addressed my concerns. Its was alarming to see so many responses and generous offers from Houston employers yet not a peep from Dallas employers. Knowing this is somewhat normal puts me at ease. Are there any industries I should consider? Lots of telecom outfits as well as aeronautics, anything else I'm missing?

Insurance, Healthcare Systems, Retail, and Telecom are big industries here in Dallas. If you are interested in pursuing an opportunity here in Dallas, that's where I'd start.

Good, you know SW Airlines flies DFW to Houston hourly if the Houston offers justify the commute

I would still apply to the Houston jobs and work remote in Dallas. Many people in Dallas work remote for offices scattered around the country from LA to NYC.
