Hello everyone... Hope it's a bit warmer where everyone else is.
Anyway, A buddy of mine and I are planning to move to the Dallas area maybe Lancaster so I was hoping if anyone could provide information about Dallas. I could look it all up but I'm busy with school and work as of right now.
Just some general info about us:
-college students
-love sports
Info wanted
-weather
-sports other than the majors
-job opportunities
-prices for gas, apartments, etc.
Thanks in advance.
-John

My buddy might be.... He found a school in Lancaster that has vet tech training courses I guess... I'm just going to work for a year and then go to school. I'll still be like 21 when I go back to school.

For its size, Lancaster has a lot of apartment complexes to choose from. They are very affordable in comparison with apartments in other cities. In my opinion, the nicer complexes in terms of outside appearance are Creekwood Place and Rolling Hills. Another one, Rosemont at Lancaster, opened a few years ago and is designed for moderate-income earners. You might also want to look at some of the apartments in DeSoto, just west of Lancaster.
Lancaster is a primarily residential, middle-class community of approximately 30,050 residents. It is starting to experience the growing pains that come with population growth, such as increased road construction, but is still a nice place to live overall. I moved to Lancaster a year ago and have really enjoyed living here.
As for sports, there is not that much to do within the city, although the local recreation center does offer some programs. Lancaster is only a short drive from Dallas and its many activities and venues.
Hope this helps!

Gas Prices - easy. The farther south you are in the metroplex, the cheaper the gas prices are.

Try to stay out of the southern Dallas area if you can and stay north of the Trinity, but if you HAVE to, stay in southeastern Cedar Hill or southern Desoto

Every neighborhood or suburb south of the Trinity River is not "bad". This is based largely on perception and not fact. Just look at some of the North Oak Cliff neighborhoods – Kessler Park, Stevens Park, Bishop Arts District – all south of the Trinity, but nice overall.
If the poster (jmowen89) [or the poster's friend] is looking at a job in the Lancaster area, what sense does it make to live in northern Dallas and brave the sometimes treacherous daily commute back and forth when there are a number of well-managed, affordable apartment communities in the Lancaster/DeSoto/Cedar Hill area? I know that there are some areas south of the Trinity River that aren't so good. For example, the South Oak Cliff neighborhood where I spent my first few years has been in decline for years, that's the main reason my parents moved to Lancaster in the late 1980s.
By the way, there are very nice neighborhoods throughout the cities of Lancaster, DeSoto, and Cedar Hill, not just in southern DeSoto or southeastern Cedar Hill.
