Yes we moved from the UK in 2004. To become a permanent resident you have to apply for a green card, apparently it costs around $12,000 for a green card!! It is not something that we will ever do as we never had plans to stay forever in the US just until the visas run out. We lived in Tx for 2 years and have since moved away. We really enjoyed living Tx, people are friendly which makes it easier when you move so far away from family and friends. We certainly have a better quality of life in the US compared to the UK, money goes a lot further, the only things that I have noticed that cost more here are Dyson Vaccuums and Tomtom GPS - things I am sure you can live without!

I am still trying yo find a business to sponsor my H1b visa, so have not thought about spend $12000 on a green card yet. The dyson i can live without not so sure about GPS!
