Default Lewisville opinions

Hiya guys - My mom is looking all over the place and she found some homes that she really likes Lewisville. She has just noticed that there are a LOT for sale right now. Is there anything that you can think of that stands out as to why?

Thanks for your help!

Hello Guingirl
I don't know why all the houses are for sale but I do know my brother lived there for 4 years and loved it before he was transfered to OK city and my wife and I enjoyed Lewisville when we would visit him

It has grown. Not home to just the Fightin' Farmers anymore. Depends on what part of Lewisville you are looking at? Lewisville now stretches all the way to Carrollton and The Colony. The Colony, NO!!!! Far North Carrollton is what some call the portion of Lewisville that borders Carrollton up on the North end of Josey Lane around Hebron Pkwy. There are some nice areas of Lewisville and there are some areas that are high density apartments. Just watch out for those areas. If there are apartments nearby stop by the management office and ask if they take Section 8 or are do they have any government subsidized renters. If you are going to live in Lewisville and you have to commute to downtown Dallas you will be in a nightmare for traffic on Stemmons/I35. Seems lately there is some major wreck on Stemmons around the bridge of the lake in Lewisville that shuts down the entire freeway.

The Colony was developed by Fox & Jacobs back in the 70's. They built a lower end home there than they did in other places around the metroplex and some of the same ones but with a MUCH LOWER price tag (cheap dirt back then). There are some areas that are kind of like patio homes/zero lot line on little cul-de-sacs of about 6 houses but it is all concrete in the front area. Very low end housing. I've seen cheap apartments built better than those, lol. Up until Frisco started getting popular all along 121 and up Main St before you got to the city limits of what was then The Colony were some businesses in old mobile homes and such that attracted a mostly male clientele . On Main St there was one that was bright purple that always had this old limo parked in the front yard. Until F&J made The Colony it did not exist except for these businesses. A few years ago some developer did put in an area of more expensive homes that were semi custom to custom near the water. But surrounded by the much lower end homes.

On out a little bit farther on that side of the Lake is Little Elm. It is a little bit better (Little Elm did not cater to the businesses mentioned earlier) with some nice housing.

I'd probably stick closer to Carrollton or Flower Mound if you are looking in Lewisville. Be careful around some parts of the Lewisville/Carrollton border, there is a landfill out there and some areas were filled in in order to be built on (may be foundation problems if not watched and taken care of).

Dearr Momof2dfw,
We too are relocating to DFW are in early 2007. I have bee building a database of homes in the Carrollton, Lewisville & Denton area. I will be Road Warrior managing Oklahoma and North Texas territory for a company. The company wants me to settle into the DFW area. I deleted all the homes I had in the realtor.com database in 'The Colony.' I appreciate your comments. I will be moving from Southern California. It is hard to look when your don't know the areas. I appreciate people like you who help us who are relocating. Can you tell me what zip code to stay away from on the Carrollton/Lewisville area you mentioned?

Thank you,
Bob

Bob,
Thanks. As I've told others before, I'd have a terrible time if I had to relocate to a new city/state and knew nothing about the area. You always hear what some say is "the best" place to live in an area but is it really? We've said 100 times that if we were moving into the Dallas area and told a realtor our price range and wanted good schools they area(s) they would take us would not be where we would be the happiest.

As far as the zipcode the one for The Colony is 75056. The only thing there is that zipcode does include some areas of far north Carrollton that are nice. To be more specific the Mapsco page to watch out for is 553 & 554. If you do not already have one I suggest buying a Dallas Mapsco. You can probably order one online at mapsco.com This will be a HUGE lifesaver as even I use one when it comes to finding residential streets in new areas of the metroplex, zipcodes, etc. On the maps in the Mapsco they have schools marked so you can see how close you really are to one if that is important to you.

Good luck and please feel free to ask any questions
