exchange students (home, high schools, area)

so I was thinking about coming to Texas as an exchange student in couple of years, when I'm 17

I'd like to get some info that what do people think generally about exchange students at school? oh and are people overall nice?

We've had several families that we know have exchange students. All were welcomed w/ open arms and everyone (adults & kids) all wanted to know about their home country. I had the opportunity to travel w/ one that was from South America on a church trip one year. It was great for my kids to hear stories from her about her country and her life there. Our local paper always seems to do a story about any local exchange students that we have in the area. I am also friends w/ a lot of people that work in our area high schools and they have always had good things to say about exchange students.
