TxDOT has floated a plan to change the HOV lanes on 75 in Dallas and Collin Counties to 'managed' lanes. Tat means that they are reaching into your pocket to toll the HOV lanes. It is all about the money. Nothing else.

Check the TxDOT website. There is a public hearing coming up in Richardson. Probably others. Time to put the breaks on this obvious money grab.

Excellent. Now that use the HOV lane despite being alone will be charged and the cops that used to have to monitor this can be used for something worthwhile.

...and so it begins. Pretty soon they'll want to charge you 50 cents just for backing out of your own driveway.

Here's the DMN Article on it.

Tolls proposed for part of U.S. 75 in Collin County | Dallas Morning News

If you do have more than 1 person in your car and you register beforehand then it is still free but single occupancy vehicles can pay to use that lane as well.

This is also going to happen on 635 East from 75 to 30

Comment all you want on it, TXDot won't change their minds. The public comment period is just a dog and pony show to make it appear like they're listening and care what you have to say.

When they announced they were going to toll 121 something like 90% of the commenters were opposed to the plan, but they went ahead with it anyway and justified it by saying the small sample size they received wasn't valid.

Really, who cares? Its not like you have to use the HOV lane, unlike the normal travel lanes of 121, and you can still use the HOV for carpooling free.

I think this is a really good idea. To make it work well they need to do two things.

A. Make sure that people can get off the darned thing without being forced to travel from 635 all the way to Allen.
B. Vigorously enforce a higher minimum speed limit in that lane - all other lanes as well.

Right now those HOV lanes are severely underutilized because one slow-poke driver will trap you for many miles. As always, around here, tolls are avoidable.

I'm not opposed, but I honestly wonder if it would be any faster
