Thumbs up Lovin Coppell

My wife and I are from Bolingbrook,

Coppell is great. We have lived here a while and I work for the city. I must say, since moving from Chicago, I haven't found a similar mix of small town close enough to big towns without the headaches. North Lake is no big deal and was recently settled with the interest of the city and citizens satisfied and Coppell looks like it will continue to offer people everything they want, especially great schools. Honestly, don't move to Plano, Frisco or similar "nice" communities. They over expanded and are cutting city services like crazy. Just check their tax rolls. Deficits everywhere in DFW and surpluses here in Coppell. PS, if you get pulled over in Coppell, show them you live here and they're the nicest people in the world. We apologize for not allowing commuters passing through to break speed limits and slide through stop signs!

We just moved/ bought our house in Coppell after living in Palatine/ Skokie for about 6 years. The experience has been very positive. It is a diverse place and very friendly. It is more of a residential community with malls scattered in neighboring towns. The school district is one of the best.....couldn't have asked for more. We have two kids, one 3 years and other 6 months.

I have lived in Flower Mound, just North of Coppell for about 10 years and have several friends and clients who live in Coppell. They have children of all ages. I have never heard anyone unhappy with their school experience, in fact they usually have very positive things to say at all levels. There are lots of nice neighborhoods, but my favorite in Northlake Woodlands - LOTS of trees, and some creek lots. I saw the post about Flower Mound, and I agree that FM has alot to offer, but would certainly lengthen the commute time to UTSW by at least 10 - 15 minutes. Best of Luck with your decision!

We lived in Coppell for 23 yrs. Our kids went to Coppell schools from K - 12. Great community. Excellent school district.

I do hate the stoplight cameras. Never gotten a ticket. I just think they are unnecessary and actually cause more accidents than they prevent.

I wish the parks were spread out more. The large parks are nice. But, they are not in walking distance for most of the residents.

I'm a current Coppell dweller and I'll be honest with you -- I think Coppell is a nice town if you want a bedroom community close to the airport. But, if you're looking for excellent shopping opportunities and an abundance of restaurants, there are other places in the DFW area that will better suit your needs. The homes are nice, but they seem very pricey. My thought is that's probably the case because of it's close proximity to the airport as well as 121 and 35. You may get a bit more house/land for your money if you head further out of the city. (Another 10 minutes up the road can get you more bang for the buck!)

My husband and I often choose to visit other towns on the weekend that provide more entertainment and recreational opportunities for our family. The one great thing Coppell does offer is a wonderful park with a fantastic wooden playground. (My daughter is a huge fan!) The city also offers an aquatic center that has both indoor and outdoor pools. (We haven't checked those out, but have heard that they are very worthwhile.)

I'll second the other posts about the excessive ticketing going on. I had a perfectly clean driving record until I came here. Not anymore. (I was pulled over because it didn't appear as if I stopped completely at a stop sign...I did, but started to pull away from the stop sign and came into police officer's view.) I was pulled over and ticketed for $247 (!!!)...it's now on my record that I "ran" a stop sign. (I was frustrated to tears at the time, but have since gotten over it -- especially when I learned that I was in good company with most of the town!) I have to chuckle...within the first week of arriving in town, a local CVS pharmacist told me that Coppell is jokingly referred to as "Cop Hell," because of the amount of tickets, etc. that are given out. (When your own pharmacy is telling you to beware, that's pretty funny!) Be careful when approaching intersections where the light has just turned yellow. Many stoplights have cameras on them and they do send tickets in the mail. (Some of my neighbors have been the lucky recipients of those!)

As far as the schools, be aware that not all neighborhoods in Coppell feed into the Coppell ISD school system. If you're near the Irving border, your children will most likely attend a school that is in the Carrollton-Farmer's Branch ISD. (Scores are not as high in some of those schools.) It's something that deterred us from purchasing a lovely home on the edge of town. (Those living near the Riverchase golf course in Coppell may correct me, but I believe that several subdivisions surrounding that area do feed into another school district.) If you have children, it's definitely something to consider.

My family and I are only here temporarily, but we have enjoyed our stay in Coppell. If you're looking for a quieter neighborhood, it's certainly one to consider.

I hope this helps!
